What you need to know before your trail

Leo Caldas is a rather disheartened police officer in the city of Vigo. His partner is Rafael Estévez, recently transferred from Zaragoza in Aragón who has a bit of a problem understanding local attitudes, the layout of the city and the weather.

When a young saxophonist is found dead in his swanky flat overlooking the beach. At first it seems as if the murder was a lover’s quarrel gone badly wrong but then certain parts of his body are revealed to have been burned.

Two police officers, from two very different parts of Spain must come together and solve a very strange case in affluent Vigo.

Travel Guide

Vigo in the Galician region of Spain,  sits in the north west of the region and is home to Caldas. He is in tune with its slow pace, history and quiet manner of the city and its immediate area. The shoreline however is as rocky as the crimes which unfold there and the people are as varied as the rocky cliffs, archipelagos and the many valleys and islands which make up this part of the world. It’s a house on one of these islands that is the setting for the initial crime scene.

“They left behind the old Berbes harbour where all the seafaring activities of the city had started at the end of the nineteeth century..”

Contrast this with Rafael Estavez, the irate and sweaty sergeant who has been transferred from Zaragoza and assigned to Caldas and Vigo, a town where he has trouble getting to know the ways of the locals and the mindset of his fellow police.

Marvel at the steep streets, the accent and the weather and realise you are in a very special place on Spain’s literary map
