1848: Danish sailors set sail to Germany to fight, but not all of them return…
In 1848 a motley crew of Danish sailors sets sail from the small island town of Marstal to fight the Germans. Not all of them return – and those who do will never be the same. Among them is the daredevil Laurids Madsen, who promptly escapes again into the anonymity of the high seas.
Spanning four generations, two world wars and a hundred years, We, The Drowned is an epic tale of adventure, ruthlessness and passion.
An epic tale and story with elements of magic realism and tales of seafaring ways. Be sure to visit the famous maritime museum in the town!
This tale covers the events of a decade starting in 1848. Several men from the small town of Marstal go to fight the Germans.

He befriends a boy, Knud Erik Friis, who in turn carries on the next part of the story. The Second World War is seen through his eyes.
