What do you do when you find out that your whole life could be a lie?
Louise Redmond is back home in Ireland having returned from London where she left for almost two decades ago. Her marriage is failing and her mother is dying so home is the best place for her to be. Whilst she’s there, she also hopes to find out about her father – someone her mother has refused to elaborate on. Now it’s Louise’s last chance but her mum is not giving her the answers she needs. So Louise has to start looking for herself and when she meets a man named David Prescott she thinks she might finally have some answers. But he is just one piece in a very large and complex puzzle and the more she finds out the more she realises that she can’t even trust her own memories.
Louise’s life is spilt between life in Ireland and London. Ireland for her was a time of restraint and growing up. Ireland in the 1960s was a tough place to be especially for women since there were strict rules governing life, religion, children and contraception. There were few options in any area of life and this tough upbringing starts the story and evokes the emotional wasteland of her mother.
London was and has been an escape but her failed marriage and her dying mother bring her home to face the past and the truth of the past.
