Tehran, February 1979
This was the date, the month of three weeks of fanaticism, passion, self-sacrifice and heartbreak. A group of professional pilots are stuck in Tehran and caught in the warring factions. They are ordered to flee out of the country but two of them are married to Iranian women.
The novel looks at the events leading up to and during the revolution, toppling the Shah.
In the author note, he says that all places and people are fictitious and when you read it , you can see why. However this is very realistic writing and more than likely historically true taking into account the nature of the revolutions and the history behind it.
The Whirlwind of the title is said to refer to the instability of this area of the world even now.
