Jen’s 15-year-old daughter goes missing for four agonizing days. When Lana is found, unharmed, in the middle of the desolate countryside, everyone thinks the worst is over. But Lana refuses to tell anyone what happened, and the police draw a blank. The once-happy, loving family return to London, where things start to fall apart. Lana begins acting strangely: refusing to go to school, and sleeping with the light on.
As Lana stays stubbornly silent, Jen desperately tries to reach out to a daughter who has become a stranger.

Peak District
The girl in the novel goes missing for four days in thePeak District. Not much of the setting is revealed although a farmer is said to have come across her and he lives in a very remote place so would know the landscape better than most.
This is a really nice part of the world to visit – lots of places to get lost but in a nice walk with friends not the way in the story!
London
The family are living in London but the city doesn’t really come across in the story as such although there’s a nice mention of the tube ressembling a religious place with the grey platforms like long, whitewashed, blue light naves with worshippers standing facing the imminent deity…”
