2000s: What happens when the only thing you have in common is a lie
A journalist on the track of an old case attempts suicide.
An ordinary couple return from a house swap in the states to find their home in disarray and their guests seemingly missing.
Four strangers struggle to find shelter on a windswept spike of rock in the middle of a raging sea.
They have one thing in common: they all lied.
A remote island and a lighthouse – the Westman islands are the best landscapes to evoke the settings in the novel. Remote, isolated, cold and mysterious. Thridrangar lighthouse is the most remote and scariest lighthouse ever – up on a slither of rock really the slab of rock it’s on is barely an island.
If the weather got worse like it does in the book, you would really be isolated from the rest of the world and even if it was sunny, it would be hard to be stuck there.
The other two stories are set in the city and in the past to some extent but it’s this creepy lighthouse that stands out in this novel!
