2000s: Hannah hopes Cornwall can heal her wounds at Christmas
After the tragic death of her boyfriend, Hannah Clitheroe is hiding away from the world. But when she discovers she’s inherited a house in Cornwall, she knows it’s time to face reality.
Her estranged grandmother lived in Kernow House for years, but Hannah soon realises someone else thinks it’s rightfully theirs: Raphael Tregar, a difficult man who quickly gets under her skin.
But as winter sets in, there’s one more thing that keeps her up at night, and the rising fear that she may not find her true home in Cornwall after all…
Pethporro is sadly fictional but this is also where Kerrow House is where Hannah has come over from Greece to accept as a part of an inheritance. But it’s the wonderful world of Cornwall that’s at play here although when she first sees the house, she’s not that impressed:
“Hannah thought it looked like the saddest house in the world, a slate-roofed Cornish monolith with dark windows for eyes, looming out at them from under November rain.”
She worries about the sea erosion as the house is on the Cornish cliffs. It had always been a mythical kind of place to her. “Mythical and vey very wet.”
However, Pethporro is still a heartwarming place to be. There’s plenty of cuddly animals, and those of the more farm variety. TAlking of animals, the shepherd in the story has a bad rrpeutation and as for the rabbit catcher..
Just as things are looking up and Kernow House is starting to look half way decent – someone else may have a claim on it!
Despite the ups and downs, it’s Christmas after all and there’s A Christmas extravaganza to look forward to!
