Why a Booktrail?

2000s: How do you solve a murder when you can only remember yesterday?

  • ISBN: 978-1472242211
  • Genre: Fantasy/Sci Fi

What you need to know before your trail

There are two types of people in the world. Those who can only remember yesterday, and those who can also recall the day before.

You have just one lifeline to the past: your diary. Each night, you write down the things that matter. Each morning, your diary tells you where you were, who you loved and what you did.

Today, the police are at your door. They say that the body of your husband’s mistress has been found in the River Cam. They think your husband killed her two days ago.

Travel Guide

Travel in a world where memory signposts are your only way of navigating

There are locations mentioned in passing in the novel but none which could be used for a booktrail. However….

In the world of Yesterday ,  no one’s memory lasts more than two days. Most of the population are what they call “Monos”; people who retain all memories before the age of 18, but just a single day’s worth of short term memories. “Duos” are slightly luckier – they remember up to the age of 23, and can retain two days of short term memories. This as you might imagine makes things hard to cope with. So diaries are all important – things must be recorded as nothing is remembered. Diaries become the bibles of life and everything in someone’s diary is taken as gospel.

The world is built around a real one however – mentions are made of Steve Jobs at Apple and all the Apple and Iphone technology which is now used to propel and programme the world. In this world, we don’t record things to brag and gain likes, but we have to record it for memories and to prove we were where we said or thought we were….

In a world where no one remembers anything, what would be the point of having a war if no one could remember to hold a grudge?
