Books set on a plane
Books set on a plane – sit tight!
There have been a selection of books published recently that have reminded me of air travel. Ahh remember when we could all do that without thinking about it? Those days will return but if you read one of the below, you can imagine yourself on a plane at least…
Fasten your seatbelts, you are in for a bumpy but thrilling set of reads!
Although with some of them it migjt put you off air travel all together haha
The Prince of the Skies
Go back to the time when air travel first began..
This is an interesting read. It’s the story of Antoine Saint-Exupéry, author of The Little Prince. That’s not all however, as this is a man who dreamed of becoming a pilot. It’s a remarkable story. Read it and learn about how air travel was so fascinating as it first began to be a reality.
Falling by T J Newman
Be on a plane when it is highjacked..
Honestly, do not read this if you are about to take a flight or are in any way nervous about flying. It’s really good, but written by a former air stewardess, it’s also very realistic. I have been on a flight since reading this and all I could do was think of it and look at the air stewardesses, the pilots and my fellow passengers and wonder….
The pilot in the novel is told he must crash the plane….you see…..
Just when you thought it was safe to go back on board…..we have another book set admidst a hostage situation on a plane…
Hostage by Claire Macintosh
The flight in the novel is a new and exciting one as it’s the first 24 hour flight which is non-stop from England to Australia.
One of the flight attendants finds a note addressed to her on a tea tray. It says she has to follow instructions to the letter if she is to see her daughter alive again. With her family in danger on the ground below, this is gripping stuff!
The Flight by Julie Clark
I always end up chatting to people in airports. Helps to pass the time and it’s amazing who you meet! Anyway, the plot of this novel starts with that very premise – Two women meet in the airport lounge of JFK. Both want to escape their lives so swap boarding passes. Then, one of the planes crashes….
I’ve never swapped boarding passes but I have thought about what would happen if I got on the wrong plane, so this was a real thrill of a read!
The Castaways by Lucy Clarke
Set on a remote island, the first chapter of this details what it must be like to be on a plane when it is crashing into the ocean. Since I like to fly and used to fly quite a lot, why do I read these books? ha! Well, they are very good thrillers although I always think of them when on a flight…. So worth it though!
A plane crashes on a an island in Fiji and the story follows them as they try to survive. Someone from the outside is trying to reach them too……
Happy flying!
