Books to make your January Sparkle

  • Submitted: 9th January 2024

January reads with sparkle

January is known as the darkest and longest month so you have to read a book to cheer you up. There are lots of books with added sparkle in them and here are a few to make you smile in the dark days ahead.

Light a candle and tuck into one of these beauties

Books to make your January Sparkle

Kingdom of Sweets Erika JohansenThe Kingdom of Sweets – Erika Johansen

A castle, a theatre and ballet. A retelling of The Nutcracker but with added darkness and then some. Still, plenty of sparkle to enjoy and the fictional setting created is just magical. OOh do please enter this world!

Set in Russia but the world is totally magical and mythical

The Night Circus

The Night Circus – Erin Morgernstern

Constantly one of my favourites and I am not one for fantasy or circuses! This one just blew me away with the world-building and the way it creates a fantasy story with real characters and a great premise. The prose is some of the most enticing and magical I have ever read. Just gorgeous.

The Book of Doors Gareth BrownThe Book of Doors – Gareth Brown

A book that acts as a door into another world. Once you hold the book of doors, you have the power to travel to wherever you want. However, there is a lot of responsibility and power with this book and what it can do. Someone gave it to you and now someone else is after you…..

Despite the tension, there is a LOT of sparkle in this book honestly. Wait until you see the library in Scotland!

DallerGut Dream Department Store Miye LeeThe Dallergut Dream Department Store – Miye Lee

Maybe this store would sell you a magical book like the book of doors. Once you go through the doors here, its a land of wonder and awe. There’s not much  I can say before you should enter the store apart from don’t read reviews or have any particular expectations. This book will surprise and delight!

Hotel Magnifique Emily J TaylorHotel Magnifique – Emily J Taylor

When you have been shopping, spent time in the circus, visited more places with the book of doors and seen the Nutcracker as never before, you’ll be feeling tired. What better place to lay your head than the Hotel Magnifique. You might have trouble finding it though  – The legendary Hotel Magnifique is like no other: a magical world of golden ceilings, enchanting soirées and fountains flowing with champagne. It changes location every night, stopping in each place only once a decade

These books made my reading life sparkle and  I hope they do to yours as well!
