BookTrail Beach Reads
Monday is a the perfect day to celebrate some fantastic beach reads – books set on the beach and one perfect to wrap yourself in on the beach – get your towel ready and reserve your place!
In the suitcase so far:
During the rest of this month and August, these will be taken to the beach and reviewed by various booktrailing people to judge how well they could be considered beach reads. Are you likely to get hit in the head by a beach ball because you’re so engrossed in the plot? Is there a leading character that might make you choke on your lemonade? If a dog runs up to you as you’re reading, will you scream thinking it’s some slobbering weirdo from the novel? And that all important ice cream moment – will it keep you licking right until the end or have you scream as the cold shock hits you?
These are all very important and valid questions when reviewing beach reads…
The Summer of Serendipity – Set in Ireland
It’s checked all the boxes – it’s a lovely warm, homely story that will make you feel al nice and relaxed and calm. The Welcome House is a local legend and it welcomes those who need it. Reading this stretched out on a nice warm beach is all that you need and Serendipity sounds like a flavour of icecream so that fits the bill too!
Even the cover is a lovely charming river with a nice whitewashed cottage and the story is quite magical and perfect for dreaming and immersing yourself in while lounging on a unicorn coloured towel
The Island of Elba – the Thousand Lights Hotel
The isle of Elba is of course synonymous with Napoleon. It was his place of exile in 1814–15. Portoferraio in the north has a museum which traces the French emperor’s time on the island.
A stunning summer read that has everything you want from a gripping beach read – it’s partly set on a beach, so you have to! Oh it’s a love story and the discovery of a lie, a new life, a new past- so many secrets on such a tiny island! Elba might be known for Napoleon but it has a lot more history and dark secrets than you could ever imagine! Emylia Hall evokes an island of magic and dark shadows…
Venice and the Italian Lakes – The Silk Weaver’s Wife
Well, this is like a very stunning, evocative tour of the Italian lakes and Venice! And London. And Amsterdam! There’s so much magical moments immersed in the fascinating silk trade of Italy. the detail, history, pride and honour wrapped into each and every thread is exquisitely done. Lots of research but lightly woven into the plot. Seamlessly written and researched. Rix weaves magic and more. The locations are lusciously Italian and the story twists and turns like the ragged mountain roads past the calm flowing lakes to the bustling city of Venice and beyond. “Evocative and captivating” barely does the book justice
So, grab your towels, get one of these lovely reads and test them out for yourself. Want to just dip your toes for now? Keep coming back to this post for more….
