May is a good book for travelling via books! Oh the places we will go! Which package holidays can you expect to be popping into your bookstore this month?
Bitter Orange – Claire Fuller
Oxford
The paperback of this lovely novel is out on May 2nd. Set in a gothic and chillingly interesting Paladian House, you can visit the house in the novel and many more besides after reading this book. Brilliant use of a keen sense of place and a fascinating mystery within an old, crumbling house. Secrets in the walls and even in the floors….
#Authorsonlocation – Travel with Claire Fuller here and find out about her inspiration and writing on location!
Greece
Those who are Loved – Victoria Hislop
Always a weepy when you read a Victoria Hislop novel and this one is no different. There’s always the feeling that Victoria has actually managed to travel back in time and get the emotions of war, of ruined villages, of the fear of fear itself so perfect. This novel is set in and around Athens in 1941. After decades of political uncertainty, the Germans invade…..
Hastings and London
The Closer I Get – Paul Burston
Ha! This was a thriller with a twist or two! In fact I lost count how many twists. The two locations worked well with events happening in London and one of the character having to move out to Hastings to escape. This time away is no help however and the contrast of real locations and the world online in which we live which is everywhere, all the time, proves to be the thrill of the novel.
Aleppo
The Beekeeper of Aleppo – Christy Lefteri
Nuri is a beekeeper; his wife, Afra, an artist. They live a simple life, rich in family and friends, in the beautiful Syrian city of Aleppo – until the unthinkable happens. When all they care for is destroyed by war, they are forced to escape. This is the story, but the beauty of this book, the emotion of this read is in the heart and soul of the characters. And their journey from Aleppo to safety, at the other end of the world…
Cape May, New Jersey
