A novel to transport you to a Northumberland manor house

A fun and very different murder mystery set in a Northumberland mansion house. There’s a Danish detective, snow storms, trouble getting in and out and plenty of shenanigans in the house itself. Oh this was delightfully different and it felt fresh and golden age all at once.
Three things I really loved about this novel – There’s a Danish glossary at the start of the book! That got me straight away. Two – the setting and the mix of Danish and Northumberland strands. Then, we have the fact that the lead character is an art historian. Now those three right there got me hooked!
The setting was luscious – from the snow falling outside to the warm oak of the manor house. You know it’s remote so there’s an instant locked- feel to it. Add in a colourful cast of characters and you are off!
This is like a chocolate box jigsaw with some pieces being immediately recognisable but others, more elusive. Then you get to see the bigger picture and, well just say it’s worth it!
The journey along the way is witty and fun ( I got to play badminton and spend time in the ballroom with the guests) and honestly, I found this a fresh take on Golden Age cosy crime. Can’t wait to meet Torben again.
