Do you buy the same book in multiple formats?

  • Submitted: 9th February 2025

Buying the same book again and again.

Do you buy the same book in different editions? Whether that be in a different format, language or US/UK edition, there’s something very exciting about having the same book in multiple editions.

Personally I collect my favourite books in different formats, different languages and yes I do get the US cover where I also love that cover.

Books I have several editions of – The Night Circus and Shadow of the Wind

same book multiple editions

Why?

Love of colour and the shapes of words – There’s something very satisfying about seeing your favourite book with a different shape – the colour, style and content of the book is different yet the same. As someone with synaesthesia like me, I enjoy the same story in a different, fresh way when I read the book in another way. Particularly in another language. I know the story but the words are a different shape and colour. It’s quite the show!

Languages – Well I collect books I love in the languages I read. I do read them as I like to see how they are translated and how they make me feel in that language compared to in English. I really enjoy doing this and then seeing my fav books on the shelf with different identities. I do realise this sounds strange but it makes me happy!

Whenever I go abroad, I like to visit the books I love in the foreign store and see the colour, style, font and even weight of a book in that country. This is totally weird I realise but hey.

Shadow of the Wind

-Some of these are special editions, illustrated, soft covers and hard covers. All very different and all gorgeous! I have all the English ones too of the whole series and the American edition of several.

The Night Circus

There are so many covers to this book and I had to limit myself to these you see here. Spanish and French edition and the black and white versions in English. It’s one of my favourite books and one of my favourite covers. Not very booktraily but it captured my imagination and it still makes me smile. It sounds particularly magical in Spanish for some reason.

Who else does this?
