Drama set in New York via the Titanic
Frances Quinn is a go to author for me. After The Bonesetter Woman and The Smallest Man were brilliant and opened up worlds I had never imagined and characters I am still thinking about. The Lost Passenger teased a story of a women wanting to start over after surviving the Titanic and well, that was me hooked!

Elinor is the most fascinating of characters, I immediately warmed to her. She’s got a lot on her plate bless her. She has a rich and busy father who works hard but she knows that she won’t inherit since she is a woman and single to boot. When she meets Frederick, her life is about to change. But that’s where things really ramp up as it does change and in the most unexpected of ways.
I am always intrigued and fully invested in Frances’ novels. She blends in real historical fact – the Titanic but takes it further so her story is front and centre with the history as the backdrop. I honestly thought I was on that ship though, so good was the detail and scene setting.
There’s not lots set on the iconic ship though and that is a real strength as the story flies once she reaches America. I was rooting for her all the way. What she had to face, what society was like then for single women in a strange land. I wanted to hug her, talk to her, help her out in some way.
This is an utterly compelling and gritty drama that took me on the most unexpected of journeys and I am sorry to have finished it so quickly!
