Finding a nice reading spot
There’s been a dilemma of sorts this weekend as we move into Autumn. The leaves are just beginning to fall from the trees and I’m feeling the need to cling on to books set on sunny beaches and in exotic places but equally drawn to more Autumn suited reads of dark cities and even darker deeds.
Do you match your reading to the seasons? Ever get the urge to find the book reading spot to match? I’ve been on a mission over the past few days taking various books and seeing where I am most comfortable reading them. Of course, a book takes you away from the real world anyway so it doesn’t really matter, but I do still like finding a nice book nook or two?
So, where did I read this weekend?
Ian Rankin – A House of Lies
Literary location:Edinburgh
Where was I really: On a bed covered in cushions
The Little Stranger, Sarah Waters
Literary location: on a park bench with autumn leaves swirling around my feet
Where was I really: In a very large and decaying gothic hall in England
You Let Me In, Lucy Clarke
Literary location: In a property in Cornwall, rented via Air BandB
Where was I really: To match the novel, I was in someone else’s house (well a room display in a shop)
And if you need a little magic in your reading….try reading in a fairy dell. ..
Leah Fleming , The Cotton Town Girls
Literary location: In England, during the time of the Suffragettes struggle
Where was I really: For a bit of reading relaxation, I dimmed the lights and put the fairy lights on. (With a lamp so as not to hurt the old peepers)
There was a mix of locations both real and fictional which always gives an added edge to a reading experience. Where do you read and where is your favourite booknook? Reviews of all the above to come.
