Halloween reads for Orentober
Halloween in #Orentober
Sunday is a time for relaxing with a good book, right? Well every day is to be fair, but since we are heading towards the most spookiest of nights and the sky outside is getting darker still, I thought I’d do a post for #Orentober. This is the month where readers celebrate all that is good about Orenda Books. A month isn’t long enough quite frankly!
Halloween in Orentober
Books that will cause you to shriek, cry out, gasp and generally palpitate for one reason or another.
Little Siberia by Antti Toumainen
Is there anything spookier than a meteorite falling to earth in a remote Finnish village? An event which causes the people of the small community to go mad, start fighting amongst themselves and suspecting each other of all sorts?
Read for : remote location, dark setting, something from outer space….
Six Stories, Hydra and Changeling by Matt Wesoloski
A series of three excellent, spooky, chill inducing feelings of wanting to run away from the perceived threats straight away! These are written as podcasts and so if you get the chance to, listen to them on audio book as then the voices really will be inside your head…
There’s all set in the forests and in Changeling, a young boy goes missing in the woods and knocking noises can be heard…..Aaargh!
Read for: scary chilly moments, a unique premise and those dark, dark woods….
House of Spines by Michael J Malone
Blimey if it’s a chilling house you want to go inside….well one in a book so you can close the cover and leave immediately when it gets too much – then this house with its mirror is going to give you CHILLS. A man looks into a mirror and sees someone else staring back……and that’s just the start.
Freakishly good this one
Read for: Did you not just read what I said about the mirror just now?
The Closer I Get – Paul Burston
You will definately get more than one chill down your neck with this read. It’s about a stalker on social media who is suddenly not just using social media to track down their object of …desire or hate? The pace and sharp writing of this are second to none and will shake your most silent fear of anything you have ever put on line.
Read for: social media frights.
Call me Star Girl by Louise Beech
Radio phone ins are quite scary affairs at times. You can get some right nutters phoning in đ and in this novel, there’s one who seems very keen to get the attention of the female radio host. She then has to leave the building at night……she sees a book which has been personally delivered even though the building is supposed to be locked….
And who is stalking her and why?
Read for: lonely nights and strange people on a late night talk show. having to look over your shoulder
Happy Halloween reading and Happy Orentober everyone!
