July 4th – books set in the USA

  • Submitted: 4th July 2016

There are so many great books to have come from the USA that I’ve done a little round up in celebration of July 4th – American Independence Day.

The one with the icon:

Pollyanna – who could forget the charming little Pollyanna? I’ve kept this book for years. It might be cute and twee to some but there’s something lovely about wanting to make others happy and trying to do something nice everyday to make that happen. Think we should all be a bit like Pollyanna in the real world to be honest.

The one with the fashion:

The Stylist – well you can’t talk America without talking about Hollywood and the glamour and glitz of the flashy lifestyle there. This book really made me smile and cringe in equal measure. If you’ve seen Devil Wears Prada, you’ll have some idea of what to expect. A good laugh this one.

The one with the food:

Kitchens Of The Great Midwest – It might not be the first country you think of when you think of ‘cuisine’ but there are some cracking chefs and cuisines all over the USA. Forget the burgers and the fast food, American food can be really unique.

The one with the Texas ranger:

The-long-count  – Think of Texas and you think Cowboys and texas rangers or is that just me? This was a really dark view of that side of life and what a gritty read! It’s only the first in  a series too so I just love it when you know there’s going to be some great books to follow

The one with the Sci Fi scenes:

False Hearts– you have NOT seen San Francisco like this before! Now I don’t normally read Sci Fi but this was a really great find. What a story and concept! You will not see the city in the same way after this, that’s for sure!

There are so many books I could  have picked for this 4th July but these stood out for various reasons. Not the classics – but rather the literary finds off the beaten track. Enjoy exploring the rest!
