booj-pyramid

Together with KillerWomen, we’re running a competition to win a copy of 5 signed titles donated by the lovely writers themselves. Titles to be announced shortly but all you have to do to win is to take a picture of ANY book written by a Killer Woman  so if you fancy a killer of a prize….(Comp will close Oct 15th)

Send it to us via

the hashtag  #killerwomenbooktrail

including both @thebooktrailer and @killerwomenorg  on the tweet

We’ll put the best ones in a gallery on the booktrail and use them for an upcoming feature nearer the time of the festival. Make your #bookstagram a scene – something dark, gritty and crime related would be great or the place where you are reading the book in question?

Killer Women

THE FESTIVAL…..

A Dangerous Lady  – Martina Cole

Gangster crime, this lady  portrays the underbelly of East End London and the criminals who roam its streets. Her language is gritty and real and she’s shies away from nothing. Having already hosted a programme called Martina Cole’s Lady Killers, now she’s in a discussion called Dangerous Lady with MJ McGrath – a woman who herself likes to kill people in cold landscapes. A good match this is going to be!

Killer Women

Hanged Drawn and Corsetted

This is going to be a bodice ripping session!

Kate Colquihon – Author of ‘Mr Briggs Hat’ and ‘Did She Kill Him’

D E Meredith – Devoured and The Devil’s Ribbon

Kate Summerscale  Author of The Wicked Boy, The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher and Mrs Robinson’s Disgrace

Andrew Taylor as the lone male. He’s playing with fire – as in his latest novel The Ashes of London

Into this tinder box, they’re bringing in the consultant from Ripper Street, so she’ll sort things out. And if there’s any trouble  – Alison Joseph is chairing. In her last book Samir’s Lament – she’s involved with the gritty side of London so she knows her stuff. Might not just be Samir who has a Lament if things get out of hand….

I’m thinking it might be interesting to see them all dressed up as someone from their novels.Who’s with me?

Killer Women

Fresh Blood

What would a crime festival be like or indeed a crime novel if there were no fresh blood around? Every writer must look back at those days and think how far they have come and how tricky the road to publication can be. If there’s anyone who knows what it feels like to be in someone else’s skin, it’s Sarah Hilary who in her latest book who can taste fear as well as feel it, so she’ll know how to inspire and shine a light in to that other darkness…

Killer Women

Serial Thrillers

Attention! There’s another man in our midst! That Mark Bellingham has only gone and crept in to the panel on serial killers – must have followed Andrew Taylor to see what was going on. That’s ok though as Ann Cleeves is with the lovely Jimmy Perez, I mean Dougie Henshall, so I guess they must think that there’s safety in numbers……or not as in Mark Billingham’s latest novel set in an addiction self help group.

At least if things get hairy, Jimmy Perez, the Bear Grylls of crime fiction for his ability to survive in the Shetland weather is capable of getting off an island in quick smart time. It is not known if Vera will be there to keep these men in order.

And a major celebration is set to be held – for Val McDermid and Ann Cleeves both celebrating their 30th novel this year.
May we suggest a new collaboration now that GBBO are looking for new presenters. Killer Bake Off – with Team McDermid and Team Cleeves making Scottish and English themed baked treats…

This is not all of course. There are many more killer woman at this high profile event. Including a great discussion on how crime books translate into film…

Put it in your calendar or Mark, Andrew and Dougie will ‘come and have a chat’ – you don’t mess with them or the killer women!
