Pancakes or Chocolate Hearts?
It’s a good week for foodies this week – Pancake day on Tuesday and chocolate and and wine day on Wednesday (Or Valentine’s for some). There’s always a good book for that moment in your life when you’ve finished filling your face and you need something to take your mind of your burgeoning waist line…
…a nice literary adventure….
Pancake day
Need some lemons and what about some ice cream? Ella’s Ice Cream Summer
There’s nothing like enjoying a pancake in a lovely Yorkshire tea room is there? The Little Tea Shop of Lost and Found
Now then, what better place and time to enjoy a French pancake than in a French bistro? Little Breton Bistro
Served with chestnut jam, Nutella or any number of imaginative fillings…not forgetting that jug of cider to go with it…YUM!
But after the French pancakes, where else is well known for the flat feasts? New York of course! Any diner worth its lemon juice will have some stacked on your plate before you say “more coffee please!” And the best place to enjoy them ? Milkshakes and Heartbreaks at the Starlight Diner
Chocolate Hearts Day aka Valentines Day
Heartbreaks could sadly lead us nicely into the second celebration of the week….Valentines Day..so a few books to highlight the good and bad point of the day…
First of all a good book, out this week which is apt – Prosecco and Promises – what two better words can describe Valentines Day? Actually this book is poignant for heartfelt reasons and a girl goes on a special journey at the behest of her dying father….It’s a really emotional read so perfect for the day of emotions!
Where else can you really celebrate the day of love? Paris of course! And Paris for Love is a particularly apt book not just the title!
Are you single? Dreaming of meeting the one? Sure he or she is out there if you could only meet them? Well Miss You is the book for you! Two people meet…and meet again…with Florence as the background, it’s a very Italian affair too !
Isabelle Broom writes some lovely romantic fiction and The Place we Met takes you to the stunning Lake Como for a recipe of luuurve. If you fancy a city break, why not let her take you on romantic break to Prague? Now this will get the cynics amongst you smiling – A Year and A Day
And well, you have to have a few crime scened sprinkled with rose petals to balance things out don’t you? Dark Lake by Sarah Bailey opens with a crime scene with a body in a lake surrounded by red roses. And what about Camilla Lackberg’s Ice Princess with a body and flowers in a bath?
Oh then there’s My Bloody Valentine by Alastair Gunn – even the author has a deadly name. Now this is an anti Valentine’s Day novel if ever we saw one!
So pancakes or chocolate hearts? Why not both? Enjoy this feast of a week and spend time with a lovely book – they’re always there, provide comfort and an escape, are perfect to cuddle up with and you can slip in between the covers and let your imagination run wild…with no regrets or heavy head in the morning.
Pancakes and chocolate hearts all around – Enjoy!
