Oh a novel like this only comes along when the planets align. Thankfully April/<ay 2024 is the perfect time! A quirky warm-hearted novel about where you belong, where you feel is home, friendships and more.
Thank you Samuel for gifting readers this hug in a book. I’d love to be Pip’s friend – we would get on like a house on fire. She loves puzzles and sets up the fellowship of puzzlemakers. One day, someone leaves a baby in a hatbox on the doorstep of this fellowship. Pip raises baby Clayton and the stories start…
The book was written in two timelines, so we hear about Clayton growing up and afterwards, after Pip dies. There’s also the story of the fellowship and Pip’s involvement in the whole thing. It was just glorious as I joined the fellowship myself, discovered how and why it was formed, the importance in its story and….well just read this book!
There were plenty of puzzles throughout the book and it was a delight to solve them. It’s an ode to puzzles and to people like me whose brains work in a puzzley kind of way. It’s extremely original and fresh and is a great way of telling a poignant story.

The very title of the book made me smile – The Fellowship of Puzzlemakers – is just a delight too. Ooh I really could hug this book. Set in London, the locations aren’t really the key to the story but I just wish there really was a fellowship of puzzle makers in the city. I would move in!
I think everyone who reads this book should sit and think what it means to them – it will mean something different to each and everyone of us. And that’s the beauty of the fellowship.
