BookTrail Travel to Seven Skins
You know when they say storytelling can be a magical experience? This was one of those times. And to think I almost never read it as it has the word ‘skin; in the title? I know, weird but true.
Esther Wilding is on a mission – to follow a trail of clues – I like this girl already. She is looking for answers about her missing sister and the journey she goes on is at times both heartbreaking and heartwarming. This is a slowly paced story and it needs to be as it grabs your throat so you need time to relax and breathe.
The novel is not just a search for the truth however, it’s an exploration into the myths and mythlogy of folklore and fantasy tales. Nordic fairytales and legends appear throughout, floating on the breeze as you turn the pages and it’s all rather magical. Music too is a major part of the novel and to my sruprise, so were tattoos! Now I am not a fan of these but I love and appreciate the artistry and stories behind them and this novel made me think what I would get!
There are some very sad moments too mind – what it means to lose a child, a baby is one of them and this is tough to read. Mother and daughter relationships feature heavily too as do those between sisters. Despite my intial dislike of the title, I totally get it now – shedding skins to discover who you are inside is the entire theme this novel is built upon.
The scene setting and the whole story feel to it was wonderful and that cover is just as artistic as the story within..
