Travel plans: Oh you have a treat in store! We meet a real life figure in this book. This is the story of Mary Read, one of history’s most remarkable figures. Of course, a lot is fictionalised but what a reimagining! There is SO much adventure in these pages. Locations abound. Honestly, you will need a rest by the end of it as we sail all the way over to Jamaica. But life on board a pirate ship is an adventure you will never forget.

Travel review:

Mary Read was one of the well-known female pirates of the Golden Age and now I feel I not only know here, but have spent time with her and become one of  her crew. This is one heck of an immersive read. Oh the sights, sounds and smells that Francesca conjures up to recreate her world. Now this is what you call a literary adventure and then some.

I got such a unique perspective into this world given that Mary tells the story from her own point of view. The cast of characters,  the world building, the way the adventures come to life off the page – just brilliant.

I read this on the beach for added immersion and let me tell you – the smell of that salt water too this story to a whole new level!
