Rare birds Bookshop in Edinburgh on the Great British BookTrail

The Great British BookTrail has been going all summer and I did my last visit to a store last week. Well…..

Joy of joys. There is nothing quite like discovering a new book haven. Especially one that barely been open two weeks! When I heard this was opening, I wanted to head there straight away. Luckily I managed to time a book scouting mission to coincide with  a visit to this lovely book haven. I was there!

Just look at the store! It’s in the pretty area of Stockbridge and not too far from the lovely canal, Botanical Gardens and other green spots so there are so many good places to sit and read! It was quite the honour to visit here. I haven’t had the pleasure of visiting a bookshop so soon after it has opened.

What caught my eye first of all? This lovely verse beside the door:

That was even before I got inside the store. Just look at the welcoming view you get when you walk in! It’s a booklover’s delight all right.

Oh my – just look at the pretty table! I loved this and it really made the books on it stand out and make you want to look at them and pick them up. OF course I would have done without the flowers but it does make a lovely display! There were of course lots of bookshelves and books stacked up on the windowsill. A larger bookcase at the entrance held book related objects on such as mugs and other literary gifts.

So many books. I may have bought one or two, I couldn’t possibly say. I did buy one of these tote bags though and am going to make it into a cushion. Oh yes.

The booksellers were lovely and we chatted books and everything! A lovely team and a very cute shop celebrating all that there is to about women writers from across the world. Oh the treasures within this store!

There are a few cafes in the area, a fish and chip shop (which serves salt and sauce) and a lovely ambience to sit and read. Of course reader, I sampled them all. Not in the same day though. Well maybe I did. Reading is hungry work after all!

If you haven’t been here yet, head there as soon as you can. It’s a lovely store with a very cosy ambience. Walk beside the canal to the setting of The Fair Botanists no less! – and enjoy tea and cake along the way. How thoughtful of Rare Birds to perch their bookish selves here!

Take a look at their website with its own book club!

Don’t forget to head to Stockbridge in Edinburgh to visit the lovely Rare Birds Bookshop
