A novel to take you on a road trip of Iceland.

Before you get into this book, you already know it’s not going to end well when someone picks up a hitchhiker. Well, two to be precise. They’re not a problem at first but….

Svein is the guy of the group and he takes charge seemingly as he’s Icelandic and thinks he knows the roads and history surrounding them. Tiddo and Isa, already in the van are in an unhappy marriage and so they were hoping to take their baggage and leave it behind so to speak. Svein has something to add about that and he isn’t afraid to add this thoughts to the mix. He is keen to keep travelling with them on this long trip across frozen land.

Well, the landscape certainly adds to the story. It’s cool, chilling and remote. Plenty of scope and time to think about what might be about to happen. The landscape as it drifts past gives a sense that something is coming, something is going to happen and we are on the way to finding out.

Whilst the setting is something else, the dynamics between the four on board the campervan is something else. I wanted to get off, I wanted to stay on. Whatever you think of this novel it will make you want to avoid any kind of hitchhiking and certainly not in Iceland. This is not where you want to be trapped in the middle of nowhere.

There were some niggles with the book and the tension drops but overall I was intrigued to read on.
