Isabelle Broom writes some really fun books with stunning destinations – but they always have that hidden layer and this book is no exception.

The romance and fab destinations are there of course, but here we have a really moving story. It’s the story of a relationship between Henry and Violet and their boy Luke who has mental health issues. It’s very sad and poignant in places as Henry and Violet are approaching divorce. What is good is how the author writes this in two timelines, as we see how events build up to the present day.

This is a very moving tale of two people who start their journey together but get lost along the way. Life comes at them and the stresses and strains start to show. There’s a whole range of emotions here and I choked up more than once. Isabelle you fiend! Making me well up and feel sad.

However, there is so much sunshine in this book and on the cover, I wasn’t sad for long. There is plenty of love and solid family relations in the story. There is a coming together, an understanding between all generations. It’s a fascinating portrayal of a marriage going through life’s ups and downs. I was rooting for them to get things sorted out. Luke – I wanted to hug him.

I’ve got to end with the destination – I so want to stay in the orange house and visit Mallorca. You can tell Isabelle researches her places well and they become part of the story in every way. The sun really shone through the dark clouds in this book. The Spanish setting really shone. What a paradise to unpick problems of the past.

There’s lots to love here, lots to appreciate and a lot to think about.

Until I get to Mallorca, I think I will console myself with a Terry’s Chocolate Orange and soothe myself with the citrus tang until I can visit The Orange House for real.
