Trapped inside a good book

Books which never let the reader escape….

I’m a bit behind with reading all those lovely novels that drop through my door, but this is perhaps the most excited I’ve been about a challenge in a while. I’ve slowly coming back on social media following some very tough months in my personal life. Books have always been my friends and I’m thrilled to have so many new ones around me. *This is in addition to the many books I have owned for years and still haven’t got round to reading yet.

My reading mojo is starting to wake up. I now have a little more time to read. I thought I would favour light novels, romance even or something purely escapist. However, I find myself most excited about books where I am trapped on an island, with someone hunting me down whilst I try to escape. Haha who would have thought?

Trapped inside a good book

I haven’t even done the BookTrails for this lot yet, but I just had to share their appeal!

What have I been reading?

The following have rescued my reading mojo and they all offer very exciting premises to the reader. I mean, I felt really excited and involved as a reader despite them being set in very remote places, up a ski lodge in two cases and in a house with some very dubious people in another. I have no idea what this says about me and I’m not sure I want to know. Why do we find scary/thrilling books so enticing?

Books set on islands and rural retreats

Keep your eyes peeled for this lovely lot:

Destination: unclear Setting: a rural retreat

the last resort susi holliday

Look at that fine cover for starters!-In this thriller, Amelia is invited to an all-expenses-paid retreat on a private island. Along with six other strangers, she’s told they’re here to test a brand-new product for Timeo Technologies. But the guests’ excitement soon turns to terror when they realise why they’re really there. Everyone is forced to wear a  memory-tracking device that reveals their dark and shameful deeds to their fellow guests… this is no retreat…but a trap……

Just when I’d escape that island, I thought I might go skiing. Ruth Ware offered to take me somewhere snowy so I thought, why not? Well….

Destination: France Setting: a mountain ski lodge

One by One ruth ware

This one might be set on a dreamy, snowy mountain but take care; appearances can be deceptive. I’ve never skiied in real life so I wanted to really escape from my world I’m in at the moment and thought a nice break in the snow might be nice. Turns out one of the party I’m with disappears…..everyone I meet in this novel is suspected of fowl play…even me…. Well if my heart Touterate was normal at the start of this, it wasn’t by around page…4…

It’s a story of cat and mouse set on a very dangerous mountains where there’s a snowstorm, risk of avalanche and no one to hear your screams…Out in November..

Turns out when Ruth was in France skiing, Allie Reynolds was there stalking the slopes as well 😉

Then there’s this one to make you SHIVER…

Hailed as the big breakout of 2021, I’m not surprised. This is like taking one of those pills Bradley Cooper takes in Limitless and it giving you a mind that works overtime to try and make sense of the people around you, what’s happening in your life and how the hell you are going to get out of the situation you’re in. It’s very exciting and a BOOM kind of book where shocks come at you thick and fast like snowballs being pelted at your face.

Be on the look out for these three reads. They got me out of my reading slump and revved up my reading mojo.
