Travel Tuesday with books in Belgium

  • Submitted: 13th February 2018

This is the week for travelling in the search of chocolate and flowers oh and pancakes…which country has all three in abundance? Belgium! Of course, its neighbour France does, but you haven’t tasted a waffle until you’ve been to Belgium

Let’s head to Brussels….

Travel Tuesday - Belgium

A political mystery with Daniel Pembrey – The Harbour Master

“What was meant to be a fun trip to the Belgian capital was turning into a nightmare”

In Brussels, Henk and his family are experiencing the holiday from hell. On the night diplomat Lottman was visiting a lover, he went missing……well this is the the European political capital so there’s plenty of places to visit to experience that side of the city. From the European Parliament to the European Council, the flags are flying.

Henk is on his holiday though so head to the Grand Place where there’s waffles, chocolate and flowers on display. On special occasions, the entire ground of the square is covered in a carpet of flowers in a display and it’s  a sight to behold! Nearby shops just off the Grand Place have plenty of waffles and chocolate and chocolate on waffles so this is a fine place to come and eat your way around Brussels, The Harbour Master book in hand.

Chocolates in Bruges with  The Chocolate Lovers Christmas

Never mind the Christmas in the title- there’s a great visit to Bruges and that is the Belgian capital for chocolates – even more chocolate shops than Brussels possibly! They’re all dotted around the canals and cobbled streets so the perfect setting for wandering, eating chocolate and sitting down to read this book set in the chocolate capital of Europe, if not the world.

Carole Matthews also forced herself to go on a research trip to Chocolateecstasytours.com who provide tailored chocolate tours in and around London

If you love dark chocolate….Silent Saturday

A YA novel that really makes Brussels and Tervuren seem really dark and dangerous. Evocative of all the dark and cobbled streets!

Brussels is dark and mysterious and gothic like at the best of times but here the gothic grandeur of the city is evoked in many ways. A girl goes to investigate a flickering light in a building and…..ooh creepy stuff indeed. If you like your novels as dark as your chocolate, then this is the one for you…
