Books to inspire

New Year Reads“Today is the first day of the rest of your life”

Book: Miss You         Location: Florence

“Today is the first day of the rest of your life is the motto on a plate in the kitchen at home, and Tess can’t get it out of her head, even though she’s in Florence for a final, idyllic holiday before university. Her life is about to change forever – but not in the way she expects.” The magic of Florence weaves its magic among the pages and there’s a message of hope at its heart.

New Year Reads

” Sometimes you just have to stop and smell the roses”

Book:A Thousand Paper Birds  Location: Kew Gardens, London

There are some books that just lift your heart for many a reason and which stay with you – this is one of those books. The gardens at Kew are not only the aromatic and scented setting for the stories of several people which interlink in many unexpected ways but a character in itself. Wait until you discover the meaning of a thousand paper birds too. Get out that origami set now.

New Year Reads” A journey starts with a few steps”

Book: The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry    Location: From Devon to Berwick upon Tweed

This is a lovely book on many levels. It’s also uplifting as if an elderly man can go to send a letter and end up walking the many many miles himself to right what has long been a wrong, then this is the book to read. A story of lost love, lost chances and the chance to do things before it’s too late. Plus if you did walk (almost) the entire length of England, you’d be as fit as you’ve ever been! So this book could well inspire a new fitter you this New Year!

New Year Reads“Treasure the little things in life”

Book: The Keeper of Lost Things  Location : England, London and Brighton

Well this is just a lovely heartwarming book and looks at the items we might lose and one man who keeps them, hoping to return them to their owners. He invents stories about the items, and the people or person who might have lost them. He notes when and where he finds them and soon these items become part of his. Think of the items important to you, why a memory might be triggered by one thing in particular….lots of stories of human kindness, pain, emotions of all kinds wrapped in a bow of hope.

New Year Reads“Have a clear out”

Book: One Hundred Pieces of Me   Location: Longhampton (fictional), England

How would you react if you had to pick only 100 personal possessions to keep? Gina is the character who does this and has a clear out deciding to keep only the things which really mean something to her. This book will definitely get you thinking – what 100 things would describe you? Which of your possessions could you really not live without? Book worms beware: 100 books is not an option. I know! Right!???

There are lots of inspiring books or books with inspiring messages out there. Which one would you pick?
