Truly, Darkly, Deeply set in London
BookTrail Travel to Truly, Darkly, Deeply
What can I say. This novel is fun, dark and very clever.
It’s a cracking premise from the off. The setting moves from Massachusetts to London as Amelia Rose moves with her daughter Sophie. They meet a charming man called Matty and things seem good for a while. However, you just know that there is something wrong here. Very wrong indeed…
In the background, there are strange things happening too. A serial killer is on the loose and he appears to be targeting women who look very much like Amelia Rose. Things take a very bad turn when Matty is suspected to be the killer. This really started to remind me of the real life case of Ted Bundy who by all accounts was a charming family man who was best friends with a mother and her daughter (the writer Ann Rule)

The story picks up years later when we see that Sophie bears the scars of her brush with danger. Now in prison, he sends her a letter asking her to come visit him. Now I’, really not sure I would have gone if I was her, but she needed answers for many things so she goes. It’s the build up to this meetingthat the author really does well. I was sweating myself through nerves.
By the time that meeting comes, I was a nervous wreck. There were more twists and shocks than I expected and well, I shall say no more, but just to add that it was a blinder of a read.
The added pizazz was created by the author in the way she inserted just enough detail such as historical events, cultural references and people of the time so her story popped against the background.
A shocker of a read. Get that popcorn out now.
